Welcoming, adaptable experiences designed to encourage participation, creativity, practical learning, and genuine connection — brought directly into developmental-services homes and programs, older-adult programs, and other community settings.
One of many one-of-a-kind pieces created in a Heartful Abilities session
Heartful Abilities creates welcoming experiences where people can connect, create, learn, participate, celebrate, and share what matters most. Programs are designed to bring engaging experiences directly into developmental-services homes and programs, older-adult programs, and other community settings.
Every experience recognizes that people participate, communicate, learn, and create differently. The goal is not for everyone to do exactly the same thing — it's to provide opportunities for individuals to make choices, participate in ways that are meaningful to them, explore their abilities, and experience a genuine sense of accomplishment.
Heartful Abilities experiences are designed around the individual, not around creating a perfect finished product. Activities can be adapted according to interests, abilities, pace, and desired level of participation.
Selecting colours, materials, ingredients, designs, and activities.
Finding meaningful ways for each person to contribute.
Encouraging individual expression, exploration, and ideas.
Creating natural opportunities for conversation and cooperation.
Recognizing progress and celebrating contribution.
Creating an environment where everyone's participation has value.
Participation may look different for every person — and that is exactly what makes the experience meaningful.
A meaningful activity can provide much more than something to fill an afternoon. Heartful Abilities experiences create opportunities for:
Exploring colours, textures, materials, and ideas.
Making meaningful decisions throughout an activity.
Allowing memories and conversation to emerge naturally.
Sharing an enjoyable experience alongside others.
Spending time engaged in the activity at hand.
Measuring, preparing, sorting, organizing, and following steps.
Seeing personal contributions become something meaningful.
Allowing time and support to reflect individual needs.
Sometimes the greatest value isn't simply what we make — it's what happens while we're making it.
Treasured pieces can become part of something beautiful again. Repurposed jewelry art transforms costume jewelry, pearls, beads, brooches, earrings, crystals, charms, and other decorative pieces into framed creations. Participants explore materials, discover combinations they enjoy, and make individual choices as their artwork develops. Projects can be adapted in size, design, and complexity.
When appropriate, participants or families may choose to incorporate meaningful jewelry, providing an opportunity to preserve memories while giving treasured pieces a new purpose.

View the gallery →Colourful, tactile, and highly adaptable, button art provides an approachable way to explore colour, shape, texture, pattern, and personal choice. Participants select buttons and decorative materials and gradually build their artwork using an outlined design as a guide. Designs can be simple or more detailed, and projects can continue over several sessions.
There is no requirement for everyone's artwork to look the same.
Sometimes the materials used in a project have a story of their own. A creative experience can recognize a memory, a person, family, friendship, faith, a milestone, a celebration, a season, or a personal story. Jewelry, buttons, colours, photographs, names, dates, and other meaningful details may be incorporated into selected projects to create something personal.
Projects may be inspired by weddings, anniversaries, family connections, memorials, faith, holidays, special occasions, and important life moments. The result can become something connected to a person, a memory, or a story worth remembering.
Cooking is more than preparing a meal — it can provide opportunities to make choices, learn practical skills, contribute to a shared activity, and enjoy something together. The Heartful Abilities Instant Pot Cooking Series brings a practical, hands-on cooking experience directly into the home or program setting. Recipes can be broken into clear, manageable steps, allowing individuals to participate in ways appropriate to their abilities, interests, and support needs.
Selecting recipes, ingredients, flavours, or meal accompaniments.
Measuring, pouring, stirring, and organizing ingredients.
Working through a recipe in a clear, manageable sequence.
Recognizing that different people can contribute different parts of the meal.
Discovering ingredients, aromas, textures, and flavours.
Preparing, serving, and sharing food together.
Seeing individual contributions become part of a completed meal.
Respecting dietary needs, allergies, food safety, and appropriate participation.

Organizations don't need a dedicated art studio or program space to provide meaningful experiences. Heartful Abilities works with organizations to select experiences appropriate for the group, environment, available time, and interests of participants.
Organizations need to feel confident about the people they welcome into their programs and homes. Heartful Abilities brings engaging programming together with professional experience and relevant training for developmental-services environments.

Heartful Abilities programming does not have to begin with a predetermined project. We can begin with the people — then explore programming that complements your organization's existing activities and the people you support.
Whatever fits your group and your calendar:
Heartful Abilities brings together my passion for creativity with more than 15 years of experience in leadership, training, management, and supporting people within developmental-services environments. My professional experience has included program management, staff leadership, individualized supports, behavioural support, health and safety requirements, training, documentation, and responding appropriately within complex support environments.
My role is to help create an environment where each person has an opportunity to participate, contribute, connect, and experience accomplishment.
Throughout my career, I have seen the importance of creating opportunities where people can participate meaningfully, make choices, develop relationships, and experience success. Heartful Abilities grew from a desire to bring that experience together with creativity and practical everyday activities.
